Green Smoothies

I’ve just started having these as part of my breakfast and I do feel more energized and healthy. Even if I didn’t, I love not having to think if I’ve had my daily serving of fruit and vegetables yet…everything else I eat is just a bonus.

I know that a variety of nutrients is the key but if you want to get the most bang for your buck – which green is the best to use?

From my research (thanks Google) it seems as if variety is key and green leafy vegetables such as spinach, collard greens, Kale, swiss chard, parsley etc are the best for blending and mixing into fruit so that you want to keep going back for more.

If you make the smoothie to green-heavy then your not going to want to drink one every morning. The best blend is approximately 40% vegetables and 60% fruit.

So what are the health benefits of green smoothies? There are a ton…but my favourite benefits are:

  • Increased energy
  • Reduced cravings
  • Clearer skin
  • Mental clarity
  • Natural weight loss
  • Increased fruit and vegetable consumption

Cheers!

    1. I know you just have to write about it because it’s so simple and really doesn’t taste like anything other than fruit juice if You do it right. Love the wee dance post. We have that several times a day at our place!

  2. I love reading your blogs Nicola and this one has inspired me to try this green smoothie idea to kick start my days. So I googled green smoothie recipes and was overwhelm with how many recipes there are to choose from, kinda don’t know which ones to try out first – any suggestions…? Kylie

    1. I tried to reply to this on my phone last night but can’t see where it has gone…sorry if I’m repeating. A yummy one is two handfuls of spinach, two oranges and some rockmelon. It tastes like mellow orange juice, the spinach just doesn’t feature. Thanks so much for reading x
