I can’t believe Julian is almost three. It has gone so fast yet I can’t imagine my life before him (probably something to do with the sleep deprivation). I am so proud of who he is and how chatty and gorgeous he is becoming.
It is incredible however the amount of presents the kid gets.
This year we are having a small close friends and family party, we’ve had two big parties in the past and the sheer volume of presents is overwhelming, for us and for him.
We’ve got nowhere to put them in the house and he doesn’t know where to start playing. This gets him moving back to his tried and true playthings…ipad and iphone. He is two and he has his own.
We do have to call them “Daddy’s special iphone and ipad” as he gets bored of things that are his. This also helps to limit the time he has with these devices so he can do something else that uses his imagination and creativity.
This year with a smaller party and requests for clothes and just a few toys, it won’t be as bad (I hope). We also spread out his presents a bit. Daddy and Julian opened one of them on Saturday night and had a ball watching The Neverending Story for the first time.
Yep, you guessed it, Daddy thought of that present. I have no idea where it is going to be stored as it’s a pain to erect….and I don’t think it fits through a standard doorway.
And this is just the beginning of the gifts! It’s his actual birthday on Thursday so I guess I’ll have to assess the damage then.
I wonder how hard it will be to keep my intention of minimalism….one thing into the house…one thing out?
I often ask for ‘minimal’ presents as it is the same in our household…my request are always completely ignored!
